Xinyi's Artist Statement

Xinyi is a Chinese animator and illustrator who moved to Ottawa in 2019 and later relocated to downtown Toronto for her undergraduate studies. Throughout her time in Canada, she has experienced feelings of isolation and resilience, discovering the importance of self-exploration and connecting with others, whether friends or new people. These themes resonate throughout her animation work such as The Light Maker, and stories she created for ongoing project Carla.

In addition to expressing herself through her art, Xinyi is committed to honing her skills, especially in 2D animation, driven by her passion for world-building and storytelling. She began learning 3D animation with Maya last year, aiming to expand her skillset and better showcase her work within the industry.
